Winter Charger Cheerleading is Back!

It’s that time of year again, when the snow starts to fall, the boys start to play basketball, and winter Charger Cheerleading returns! It’s exciting for the girls who didn’t cheer for football, because after the long break, they can get back into the fun and start cheering again. “We had a really good [football] year. We didn’t get to do our Homecoming routine, but we’re going to perform it in basketball season with the football girls,” say co-captains Sam Mooney, Kelsey Bohr, and Becca Blake.

This year’s lineup is: freshmen Danielle Blake and UCA (Universal Cheerleaders Association) All-Star Bailey Shemenski, sophomores Haley McCoy, Bre Shanahan, Katy Benoit, and UCA All-Star Ali Aloisio, juniors Jessica Minott, Allyson Schenk, and UCA All-Stars Katie Petry, Ashley Bohr, and Becca Blake, and senior captain Sam Mooney and UCA All-Stars Kelsey Bohr and captain Brittany Holzer. The girls have practiced all summer, and learned a new dance and cheer—appropriately named Extreme Routine—as well as a couple sideline cheers and some fun and daring stunts from a UCA Camp. The girls even had the opportunity to perform at the Capital One Bowl this New Year’s with Coaches Megan Murphy and Bonnie Kehlringer. Due to the skyrocketing airfare prices and the overall cost of the trip, however, they decided not to go.

“I think we’re going to have another awesome year,” smiles flyer Katie Petry. “We have some new stunts up our sleeves, and I think the crowd will be more pleased with our performances this year as we keep getting better.” The girls hope to have a really great season, try out their new moves, and show everyone what Charger Cheerleading is all about.
