Just before we hit the press this month, Mr. Armato, Athletic Director, rushed us a direct response to last month’s article, “Administration Ends Tradition.” In this story, Jessica Ramirez (‘09) voiced the dance team’s “disappointment” after the administration decided to not let the team attend the UDA National Dance Team Competition in Orlando, FL, this coming January.

“All trips have to be approved by Father Etheredge,” Mr. Armato began. “Father has the right to approve or not approve any activity.” In terms of the dance team decision, Mr. Armato made it clear that the event was cancelled for “confidential but valid reasons.” “I, as [Athletic Director], trust his judgment…We feel bad [for the dance team], but his reasoning is good.” Despite how it may seem, Mr. Armato ensures that the “decision was made in the best interests to everyone.”

Mr. Armato also took the time to address student absences. “Students absent during the school day are not permitted to attend extracurricular activities for that day. If you are out for class, you are out for the entire day.” All students should be aware that if you are not in school on Friday, you are not allowed to participate on Saturday. As usual, allowances will be made for doctor’s appointments, funerals, and other extreme circumstances.
