Schwarzenegger Tries to Send Inmates to Mexico

As we all know, there is a problem with overcrowding in prisons in California. Arnold Schwarzenegger, governor of California, believes that the solution to the problem of overcrowding is to send illegal immigrants to jails in Mexico. 

He plans to pay Mexico to have these prisons built to house the 20,000 illegal immigrants currently occupying California prisons. He believes this will also help financial problems in the California government. He is asking for 880,000,000 dollars from the government to fund his plan and he also wants to start using private prisons more. He plans to put the extra money saved from his plan towards higher education. Schwarzenegger said, “We can do so much better, in the prison system alone, if we can go and take inmates- for instance, the 20,000 inmates that are illegal immigrants that are here- and get them to Mexico.” Aaron McLear, Schwarzenegger’s spokesman said that he has no official plans to send inmates to Mexico but was just thinking of possible solutions to the overcrowding. He believes that sending these immigrants to Mexico would save California a billion dollars out of its current deficit of 19.9 billion dollars. Some people view this plan as giving the illegal immigrants back to Mexico and putting off our problems. They view it as unfair to make Mexico take care of their citizens that came to the United States illegally. 

Nothing is settled yet but many people are still unsure of this plan. The people of California are awaiting the final details of what might be the solution to the problem.  California’s prison system is in for some major changes this year.
