A Horrible Roman Holiday

I have just witnessed a horrible hour and a half fiasco of a failure called, When in Rome. Leaving the movie theater my face was frozen in shock and I was left wondering, “Did I really just pay money to see that?” When in Rome stars Kirsten Bell as Beth, a typical workaholic who flies out to Rome for her baby sister’s wedding. Upon getting there, she drunkenly walks into a fountain, yells at a few statues, and tosses some coins around resulting in  5 “love spells” where she finally gets her shot at love (puke!), in what turned out to be a horrible film of cliches and predictable outcomes. Even if you were holding out to see some of the beautiful scenery in Rome, there were only two small shots in the movie, either of which could have been in New York City. Seeing the commercials, I thought this movie had probably put a lot of money into the production by hiring Kirsten Bell, Josh Duhamel, Danny Devito, John Heder, and Will Arnett, but they apparently couldn’t afford to get their casting director glasses, because he obviously must have been blind. Kirsten Bell looks (unfortunately) like the all-American girl, while her “younger” sister has contrasting dark Italian features and looks about 10 years older, making you believe that they couldn’t even be distant cousins. Also Bell’s character’s best friend in the movie, Kate Micucci, played the typical dimwit who was obsessed with other people’s lives, and after seeing her performance, I guarantee a long career of Lifetime Movies in her future. A note to the director: Just because you film a movie in Rome, doesn’t make your pathetic-o attempt make you look like the next Michelangelo. The script writer, also wrote another film, Old Dogs… I rest my case!! The script was so terrible that I was cringing in my seat throughout this saccharine “rom-com”. If he had just added one or too more cliches, I wouldn’t have been surprised to see Matthew McConaughey grabbing the lead role with his bare abs! Save your time and your money and avoid this hot mess.
