All She Wanted Was a Little Credit ... Don't We All?

Confessions of a Shopaholic - 3.75 out of 5 stars

This romantic comedy was extremely entertaining. Based on the book Confessions of a Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella, the movie is about Rebecca Bloomwood (Isla Fisher), a twenty-five year old, who lives with her best friend, Suze (Krysten Ritter), in a flat. Struggling with her obsessive shopping and insufficient income, Rebecca Bloomwood unintentionally lands a job writing for a financial magazine after a drunken letter mailing mix-up. Ironically, she is giving consumer advice that she herself should follow. She uses fashionable metaphors in her articles that make her famous. As Ms. Bloomwood’s success and fame flourish, her financial problems seem to get worse. She grows closer to her boss, Luke (Hugh Dancy), and must decide if her true dream is to write for the renowned fashion magazine Alette. Rebecca Bloomwood must determine which is more important: overcoming her “shopaholic” condition or working in the midst of the fashion world where she will surely lose control.

This movie was wonderfully hilarious. It is definitely more of a chick flick, so guys, don’t expect to love the film. The cast was brilliant; Isla Fisher’s performance was amazing, and John Goodman and Joan Cusack always are fantastic. This movie did have a lot of great morals in it as well, the main one being: there is always a price to be paid. Although slightly unrealistic at times, it also expresses the need for honesty and how you must be careful with money. It was all done very amusingly, especially at the “shopaholic rehab.” This is an absolutely a great film for girls to see together.
